Hi, I’m Elaine Thompson, I have worked in finance and accounting since 1997, training as an accountant in the UK before moving to Canada in 2001, then finally qualifying with my UK designation while in Canada. For several years, I progressed my Canadian career moving from Financial Analyst to Senior Financial Analyst positions in the banking sector before moving to my last corporate role as an Assistant Controller for an international manufacturing company.
For a few years, family became my focus, but I did take on some accounting and payroll-related voluntary positions so that I was never far from the industry. During those years, the accounting landscape changed in Canada and I came to realize that corporate life was not going to offer the work-life balance I needed so after much soul-searching, I resigned from my designation and decided to set myself up as a self-employed bookkeeper in 2016.
As 2020 got underway, I was keen to take my business to the next level, but first I wanted to find a business name. Looking for something that was appropriate for a bookkeeping business was important, but I also wanted to find something that suited me. For almost 20 years, I have been a runner. It clears my mind and helps me maintain the focus I need to run a business and raise three children. And as a mother, I am always running around so as soon as it came into the mix, I knew I had found my new business name: Running Total Bookkeeping Services.
